Traversing the unforgiving sands of Arrakis isn’t easy, and in Dune: Awakening, vehicles are a lifeline. Of all the options, the Buggy stands out with its large inventory, making resource gathering—especially ore mining—far more efficient. But crafting one requires a hefty stash of materials, which can be tough to come by early in the game.
Where to Find the Free Buggy
Fortunately, there’s a lesser-known trick: you can claim a free Buggy from two different locations, no crafting required. Here’s how to find both—and what to keep in mind before relying on them.
You’ll need access to the Vermillius Gap region, which unlocks after completing a string of early-game missions in the Hagga Basin.
Location 1: Khidr’s Shadow (Vermillius Gap)
Head over to Khidr’s Shadow outpost located around the central Vermillius gap area, just look for the tallest rock formation, the outpost is just south of it.

As you enter the outpost head slightly right and you will find a small garage building housing a free buggy just waiting to be claimed.

Location 2: Southern Comms Outpost (Eastern Shield Wall)
The second location needs you to head northwest and cross into the Eastern Shield Wall region, where you’ll find the Southern Comms Outpost.

Tucked away just south of the Outpost marker, this remote spot holds a free Buggy waiting to be claimed. Head to the exact location marked in the image below, where you’ll find a small garage building.

These Buggies are not instanced—they’re shared across players. If someone else has already claimed one, you’ll need to wait for it to respawn.

Is the Free Buggy Actually Worth It?

Here’s the tradeoff: this free Buggy is more of a temporary perk than a long-term solution. With reduced durability, it won’t last as long as a fully crafted one. It’s a good idea to bring some welding wire and a torch to make repairs. While you can’t rely on it forever, it’s perfect for short bursts of exploration and boosting mining yield thanks to its larger inventory capacity.
If you’re low on materials but eager to increase your inventory storage, travel efficiency and ore collection speed, this is a great opportunity to try out a Buggy with zero crafting investment.

Final Verdict
If you’re just getting your bearings in Dune: Awakening, the free Buggy is a solid stepping stone. It’s not built to last, but it’ll make your early-game journey through the desert much smoother—for a while, at least.
